Figure Review: Sideshow Frodo Baggins

If there is to be a central character to the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, then certainly this character must Frodo Baggins.

Announced by Sideshow Collectibles; together with another Hobbit figure Samwise Gamgee, Frodo Baggins in mid 2007, Frodo finally began shipping in July 2008 and I got my figure straight off the FedEx Delivery Van around the 1st weekend of Jul 2008.

Accessories

Compared to the Sam Hobbit figure, Frodo comes with a lot less accessories. However, it nevertheless sill comes with quite an impressive range of add-ons. These include a backpack, the Sting Sword, Scabbard for the Sting, a Lothlorien cloak with elven broach, a pipe, and extra hands. The Exclusive Edition comes with another set of Sword and Scabbard; that which (in the movie) was given to Frodo by Strider at Weathertop.

And of course, Frodo comes with the One Ring and the accompanying chain.

Head Sculpt

The head sculpt is very nicely done. The paint work is well-applied and the likeness to the actor who portrayed the character Frodo in the 3 movies is unmistakable!

Overall Figure

Figure poseability is good although the hands and legs joints are a bit loose. This is compensated by the “lightness” of the figure (being a small body) and this figure does not have many problems in holding the desired poses. “Split shin” issues are present but as I had mentioned in my review of Samwise, this is a problem that could easily be fixed.

Overall Rating

This must be one of the best 12-inch Figure that Sideshow Collectibles has released from the LOTR line. Like the Samwise Gamgee figure, the choice of fabric for the clothing is spot on and the kitted figure simply looks wonderful.

Overall, I rate this figure a 4 out of 5 (4/5). I rated the Samwise Gamgee figure higher at 4.5 out of 5 because of the extra accessories but from a figure standpoint, the Frodo Baggins figure packs as much punch as the Samwise Gamgee figure. Not sure which Hobbit figure to purchase? Grab both!!
